The Top 6 Ways to Add Fun and Grow Your Business
Why would you want to add fun to your business? Isn’t business the place for serious labor?
No matter how proud you are of your 17 hour days and ability to keep the pedal down, the truth is that if you are not having fun, you will burn out. To be at your best you need to enjoy yourself.
There are two main reasons to add fun (whatever that personally is to you) to your business:
First, it builds your entrepreneurial desire… a core element to build a growing, thriving business. Second, you will enjoy yourself more and do a better job… again core elements of creating large scale growth.
The Top 6 ways To Add Serious Fun To Your Business
1. Focus on developing your top strengths. What are the activities of your work that you are really good at, that also give you energy? Growing these skills is often a useful form of combining work and fun.
2. Measure small wins, and reward yourself regularly. Most people always find rewards to be fun. Even without the rewards, measuring and noticing small wins can often provide a level of personal satisfaction.
3. Combine personally enjoyable activities and work, to increase your fun at work. There’s one consultant who enjoys going to movies. He always complained that he never got to go to as many as he liked. Then he got an idea. He started quoting from movie scenes with his clients to explain his points. This gave him the perfect excuse to see more films, and his clients gained a clearer picture from his interactions with them. He’s having a lot more fun now, and his practice is growing as a result of the increased referral business from this “new-found” clarity.
4. Personal exercise and a health regime seem to be effective ways of coping with stress, which usually makes it easier to have more fun at work. Running, working out, playing tennis, playing hockey, horseback riding etc. Whatever your thing is, there seems to be a mental release available that is unique to physical exertion. A personal observation: Golfers seem to be happier at work when they get out on the links more often. Getting the point?
5. Set up your environment so that it's fun to do your work there. You may choose a beach in Mexico or a jungle in Costa Rica… or it may be as simple as putting posters up of scenes that give you energy. Whatever it is, have it be fun for you. You may find that you want to change it up periodically. Keep your environment fresh, and you will feel fresher too.
6. Look at how you have your interactions with others set up. Are relationships enhanced or diminished? How can you re-organize your work regime to add more time to get connected with others? Or, if you spend too much time with others, how can you set it up to gain some quiet time for yourself? Whatever it is, there is usually a level and quality of relationship available that will maximize your enjoyment of the people whom you interact with. Richer relationships can really add to your levels of fun.
Regardless of your situation, an increased focus on what would add fun generally gives people access to strategies for enhancing enjoyment at work, and in life.
If you actively address the various elements as identified, you will find it easier to gain and keep more customers at a profit, consistent with your goals and commitments in life.
